Edgewood Farm was established as an LLC in Elizabeth, IN in 2023
But the story of Edgewood Farm actually begins in 1921 when Oscar Dix purchased a 25 acre piece of property in what is now Jeffersonville, Indiana. A former business owner from Utica, Indiana, Oscar purchased the property after he retired. Through the years and through the generations, Edgewood Farm slowly faded and the Jeffersonville property was never used as an agricultural site, though it has been home to various chickens, beautiful hardwood and ornamental trees, and vegetable gardens of assorted sizes. It was in these woods and in these gardens that Patrie Davis, the current owner of Edgwood Farm, fell in love with the land.
She spent summers as a child helping her grandmother shell peas and shuck corn, helping her grandfather tame pole beans and cage tomatoes. She explored the woods with various four-legged companions, nurtured by sunlight and mud puddles. But progress tends to happen, especially when there’s flat land and nearby industrial growth, and soon the original site of Edgewood farm was incorporated into city limits with a lot more restrictions on what you could and couldn’t do on a piece of land. Neighbors who might not necessarily want a couple of goats looking over their shoulder while they try to catch up on their Netflix shows.
Inspired by a childhood in the dirt, stories her dad told her about growing up on a farm in rural Alabama, and a strong family tradition of living with the land, Patrie set off in search of a new beginning. In 2017, the current side of Edgwood Farm was purchased. Five generations and 102 years later, Patrie and her family have taken the roots of Edgewood Farm and brought forth new growth.
